Hi,

I have been considering joining the airforce for about a year now. I have gone back and forth with pro's and con's in my mind and am still not sure on what decision I will make about joining. I would really like the college money, but I really don't know what's available to me. I need to talk to a recruiter in my town, but I've been kind of hesitant of going there because I heard that this certain recruiter really lies to everyone. I have decided that I would like to be an elementary teacher. Is is possible to be an elementary teacher for the airforce? I know the bases have school's for the children of everyone in the military. Is that a possible job or do they only employ civilians for those jobs as teachers? Also, I have only had one semester of college completed. Realistically, is it really possible to go to college while in the military? I have also heard from others that it was kind of a joke to think that you could finish college in the military because of varying hours on the job. What are the jobs with regular hours? I know I have a lot of questions here, thank you for taking the time to read this.

Elementary education is not an Airforce job, all teaching done on most military schools on Post is by civilians most of whom are usually the spouses of the Airmen, soldiers, etc. As for as what job has regular hours again none. Some have fairly normal shifts you work but it is a 24-7 job meaning that if they need you you have to be ready to go 24-7. If wanting to teach and be around the AF the best suggestion I could give you is get your teaching certificate, then apply to one of the schools on the Base. Most are always looking for teachers because again most move when their spouses tour of duty at that location is up. So if they can get a teacher they know will be around awhile and not moving that is a plus.
