Air force Reserves

I've been wanting to join the Navy, but just recently I had the opportunity to talk with the Air Force Reserves recruiter. The only reason why I would join the air force, would be to fly. The recruiter said that there were plenty of opportunities for reservists to fly. I was just wondering if there is any reality in this statement. Flying is my dream and if I could fulfill that it would just be great. If I did get this opportunity I know I would never regret joining the military. Any advice or thoughts from active and reservists on the subject would be great. Thanks much--Penny

That would all depend on what your definition of "flying" is if you just want to be on board an aircraft, then yes they can do it. If however, you mean you want to be the one "flying" the aircraft you can just about forget it unless you are an officer.

Good point. I had heard that you had to be commisioned to fly but I wouldn't care, just as long as I'm on a plane.

: care, just as long as I'm on a plane. There are enlisted "aircrew" positions on several military aircraft. You need to talk to your recruiter and make them explain to you just what you will get into with these jobs. You will not just be riding along with a bunch of pilots. I spent the last fifteen years flying on Air Force airlift aircraft, and it is a wonderful experience for anyone. The military also has flying positions in certain medical careers. I also recommend you check with a reserve flying unit, they will be more than willing to answer any questions you have.
