Hi my name is Sindy. I was just wondering how you have to put your hair up when you are in bootcamp? I don't really want to cut it all off but I also don't want to get yelled at for not having it the right way. Please help me. Thanks

Some women French braid their hair, some put it up in a bun. I start mine as a ponytail but instead of pulling it all the way through, I leave it halfway caught and it's up within regulations.

Experiment with different styles to see what is the fastest way to get your hair up and make sure that whatever you pick stays up all day long. Don't worry about making it terribly neat, you aren't there for a beauty contest anyway.

Fortunately when I went through basic I already had short hair. Several of the girls did have long hair, but before the end of basic they too had short hair. You will find you really do not have a lot of time to mess with your hair, those extra few minutes it takes to blow dry and fix could be spent on other things. Your hair will grow back out and for convenience you really may want to consider cutting it shorter for just a few months. Plus the fact that San Antonio will be hot from now until mid to late October. Your head will sweat and having to wear a hat all the time you are outside, short hair will be a lot cooler.

Bun, braid, twist - whatever it takes to keep your hair from covering the collar. And whatever you use to keep it in place will have to comply with the uniform regs.

I have to second the suggestion about getting it cut short for the duration. Time is a real problem in basic - you don't have much. For example, there will be at least one memorable morning where you'll have to be out bed and in formation in 10 minutes (and yes, your area will have to be in inspection order before you leave).

Further, not only is the climate hot in San Antone, it's dry and dusty - very hard on the crowning glory.

Finally, you don't have much personal storage space and everything in it is subject to inspection. So the less you have on display, the less the instructors will find to grow wrathful about.

Basic is a good time to follow Thoreau's advice - simplify, simplify.

Hi Sindy, when I went through basic last year I put my hair in a bun then wrapped a hair net around the bun and secured it with a couple of bobby pins. It takes less than a minute but will hold every hair in place all day, even during PT
