So here we are- 10 years later. Do we remember solemnly, ornerously with fireworks, or quietly with family and friends who were watching on tv as the travails unfolded? I say, hang your flag if its not already out there and think back to the day of Jan 16, 1991 when we crossed over from Operation Desert Shield to the Persian Gulf War. Amazing, what things were done, the technology implemented and the lives lost.
For those of us attempting to enter the military forces, we do not ask to see war. We ask to serve our country with integrity, honor, pride, and strength. We ask that those following in our footsteps do not have to see it likewise and wish those before us hadnt.
Thank you to those who were involved in an capacity, within the Gulf War. You should be proud of your service as we are proud to have had you there.

I was in 7th grade when the Gulf War began. My teacher had a former student who was over there, serving in the Army. Our class would write him letters, and he always responded to each one of us. I don't remember him name anymore, but those letters were special, and I remember how proud I felt to know someone fighting for us. For as young as I was, I admired his bravery, and looked up to him for what he was doing. I still have my yellow ribbon which say Support Our Troops, and even a few old newspapers with pictures of soldiers on the front page. I also remember watching the news, seeing pictures of the latest night bombings, with their green glow. For someone who had never seen a war before, it was an incredible and scary sight.
Even at that age, I had the respect that I still do today for all those who serve in the armed forces. You've given so much. Thank you.

I was a jr. in high school. I remember the tv being on in my social studies class and watching the scuds and green lasers criss-cross the sky. We, too, wrote to soldiers deployed, but received little back. We didnt care, yet all we knew that our words were being read by someone who needed something to think about other than living through nuclear threats. I wonder what some of those people are doing today. It was almost surreal at times; being able to watch it on tv and see the events unfold. It almost seems sacreligious to watch a war happen on tv, like it was a just a media event and not real lives, real ammo, and real violence occurring. Through these events, I wonder how much has changed, but thats a moot point. No use in being moot now huh? Remember the day with a good heart and promised thoughts.
