Hi I'm intrested in joining the Air Force and I really want to fly. my dad doesn't think I can do it and my mom doesn't want me to do it and I'm not sure what to do or think. I'm a year and two months away from turing 18 and being out of school. I wanted to know some of my options. I also would like to know what I could do if I had a young child.

To fly in the Air Force you need to be an officer..which requires a BA or BS degree and either ROTC or OTS after graduation. I recommend you to go to college and maybe ROTC or OTS. You don't need a waiver as an officer if you are a single parent I think..but if you enlist you need a waiver for that. Talk to your parents about the Air Force and show them some material on..that helps sometimes. I recommend also the Army Warrant Officer program..you don't need a degree for that you just need to be 18 and have graduated from high school. Talk to an Army Recruiter about the Warrant Officer Program..I think it might interest you.

Army Warrant Officer Program: http://www.goarmy.com/about/warrant_officer.jsp
Warrant Officer Video: http://www.usarc.army.mil/retn/RTDInternet/wo_default.htm

You can also go to goarmy.com and chat with a recruiter.

Good Luck with whatever you choose..if you have any questions you can email or AIM me.

ROTC: You will not get selected for pilot until AFTER you commit to the ROTC. Talk to the collge ROTC Commandant about the program.

For OTS purposes: OTS gives college students who didn't go ROTC or Academy an opportunity to become an officer in the Air Force. You can be a pilot in the Air Force if you QUALIFY. First, you must be within one year of getting your BS or BA in ANY major. Just maintain a good GPA because it can be competitive to get selected. Physical qualifications are strict. Your near vision must be 20/20 without correction, waivers are sometimes awarded. I suggest you get some flying experience. It will get you familiar with piloting and make you more competitive. You should try to get a Private Pilot License but it is NOT required to apply.

Go to airforce.com for more information!

Good Luck!

hey thanks for the info you gave me. I am planning to get my pilot's license before anything. but I also have a question about CAP. Does that help anyhting or is it just an extra sort of thing. My best friend was in CAP while he was in high school and then went into the air force. But I never asked him about it. thanks again!

Civil Air Patrol is always a good thing. It will not be the sole thing that will make you become an Air Force pilot, but it could be a big help. I've been to their meetings and was very impressed with the formalities, etc... It will prepare you for drill, customs and courtesies, uniform wear... etc... I heard you can fly with them too. Check them out.
