Hey ladies (sorry about the length)
I am a high school junior and I am getting serious with my college search but I have come up against a wall.
I am truthfully more interested in joining the Navy than the Air Force but I can’t find many schools that have what I want along with NRTOC. I am looking for a small (I mean small) school with any major relating to criminal justice, law enforcement administration...stuff like that, and an equestrian program. There are more schools that match what I want with Air Force but I don’t know if that is what I really want to do. I don’t want to miss out on a really great school but I also don’t want to end up doing something I won’t like.
I don’t really know why I like the Navy more. I suppose it’s because I have never been on a plane and have no idea what to expect. I guess I’m afraid to join the Air Force and then find out that I am paralyzed with fear when I fly in a plane. I know there is no way around working with planes and I am okay with that. I guess the information and the sites on the Navy have been more appealing and most of the people in my area have parents or grandparents who were in the Navy.
If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to know if either the Navy or the Air Force has a better security forces group or any other information that you can give me. Can any of you tell me the differences in the life in each branch? I am also interested in a mounted cop and K-9 unit so if anyone has participated in either of those please let me know. PLEASE email me with your stories, advice, anything.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Go to afrotc.com to get a list of all schools with ROTC units. ROTC detachments are almost always located on a major college/university campus, however, there are small schools you can attend for classes then do your ROTC courses at the major campus.

As for the difference between Air Force and Navy, it is up to you to decide what is better suited for your desires and needs. I, too, HATE to fly but have been able to complete 21 years of service in the Air Force with the fear of flying. Been overseas twice. It is something you just have to work out at the time.

The Air Force has a Security Forces program for our Criminal Justice majors. You would be involved in many different aspects of security in the Air Force, it just depends on your assignment to determine what aspect of Security Forces you will be involved with. Whether it be Law Enforcement, Phoenix Raven, Security, etc... We also have K-9 units and there is a possibility you could be assigned to one. There is also a possibility you could not be assigned to K-9, simply for the fact the availability does not exist at the time of assignment selection.

A lot of bases in the Air Force have stables for those interested in riding horses. If the base does not have one, I'm sure you can find some riding opportunities off base.

Make sure you apply for an ROTC scholarship at afrotc.com!!! Now is the time to start getting your application together. Your guidance counselor can help you or a JROTC instructor. You should have done your PSAT by now. A good competitive score should be over 1100.

Good Luck!
