Hi, I came across this website and thought you all could help me. I go to MEPS this Thursday/Friday and have some questions. Do you all have any advice for me? I've talked to the recruiter but I want a different perspective. I wish to be a Still Photographer because photography has always been my passion, but the last recruiter I talked to said that job was hard to come by. I have done a lot of research on it and after 2.5 years of thinking about it I'm finally going. Do you all have any advice on MEPS? If you could post or e-mail me ASAP, I would be highly grateful!
God Bless America,

The recruiter is right. If the jobs are not available, it is because the needs of the Air Force dictate so. When I briefed people about MEPS, I made sure they were pretty open to many different things so they would be happy. There are many factors that determine what types of jobs you can do, your ASVAB scores, your physical results, and most importantly, the NEEDS OF THE AIR FORCE. I hate to say it, but it really comes down to needs versus wants. You'll be told nightmare stories about picking the General Area, going to basic and getting a crappy job. That never happened to my applicants. If you go open General. You will pick your job down in basic training. A lot of Air Force Specialty Codes are held strictly at Basic Training, and these jobs are the ones MEPS never sees, medical, photography, etc... Yeah, its a risk. But if you REALLY wanted to be in the Air Force, you should be flexible. The Air Force has so many opportunities that outweigh the job. If everyone had the job they dreamed of, it would be a perfect world. And remember, it is only a 4 or 6 year enlistment. It's not forever. You have plenty of time in your life to make your dream come true. If you don't get Photography, then take photography classes in your off duty time. Just because you don't have the job, doesn't mean you have to stop pursuing Photography. When you are at MEPS, you should have a positive attitude to the Liaisons. They are the ones that do your contract, so please be nice and courteous. Act as if you are already in the Air Force. Good Luck!

thanks for your advice. I will go in with an open mind, but I also do not want to be stuck with a job I know I wont like. Thanks again.
