I have one year to go before i graduate college with a degree in political science. I really want to become and Intel Officer, preferably with the Marines. However when I read post about how your MOS is chosen it just seems like its hit and miss what type of job you will get. Is it likely you will end up with the job you want in the Marines? Or do you think there is a better chance of me getting the job I want in another branch. I know there is no guarantees in any branch. But I really want to become a Marine. Any info would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

The officer's MOS are chosen is a bit different than the enlisted side. You are ranked during TBS (The Basic School) based on your performance. The Basic School follows OCS and is similar to the Marine Combat Training that you receive on the enlisted side except in is much more indepth and deals more with how an officer leads their troops into battle. Then you are broken down into groups and a cutoff is set after say 20 Marines. Then the top individuals in each group have a better chance of getting the MOS that they are interested in. However, Intel will really depend on your interview and what security clearance you qualify for. So basically it is up to you to perform the best that you can while at TBS. My best advice is to choose the branch that you really want to join. otherwise you'll always wonder what if. You never know you may end up in an MOS that really fits you well and you may just get your choice. Talk with an OSO to get a more in depth look at OCS and TBS. You also need to know that as a female entering OCS you have to be in top physical shape in order to be accepted by an OSO, so many females either are injured or wash out of OCS that they won't waste their time recruiting someone who isn't going to make it through. You need to have a lot of upper body strength as well as a great run time in order to be looked at. Best of Luck in your search. Go with your heart!
