I'm writing a piece of historical fiction centered around the duty of a woman in the Army Nurse Corps during the Korean War ("The Forgotten War" so it's called in most of my research).

Not many people talk about Korea so there isn't an abundance of accessible information about it. But I was looking for whatever I could get. Starting with what kind of basic training they would've undergone in that era, their chain of command, etc.

Is there anywhere I can go to for this information?

One of the reasons you are having trouble finding information is that outside the Army Nurse Corps, women did not serve directly in Korea. They were usually stationed in Japan or other Eastern countries and served in support capacities. When MacArthur landed at Inchon, there were 13 Army nurses with the MASH unit that was with him. In total there were only 540 Army Nurses who served in Korea and only one died, but she died in route to Korea, not in Korea.

Keep in mind that when Korea broke out, the Army was in a down-sizing phase and there were only 120,000 women on active duty by the end of the conflict.

The women who served with the Nurse Corps would not have gone through basic training, but rather officer training, which I believe at the time was a Ft. Sam Houston.

Your best bet to find any information is to go through the Army Nurse Corps Association or through the Medical Museum that is located at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

That's what I was looking for. Thank you.
