I am a 17 year old who is a poulee in the US Marines. My recruitor told me a while ago that if i decide the Marines were not for me that I could switch over to another branch. But my question is that if I do this is it better to join the Aor Force?? I wanted the Marines to prove I can do anything I put my mind to and to prove I can stand up for myself.
But the physical work is harder than I imagined. My parents are happy either way. As long as I am happy with what I am doing in life. I have a brother who is an Airman but I dont want to switch because of him. I also want to know... would quitting the Marines at this moment in time cause me to get a Dihonorable discharge or anything along that lines?? I want to switch with out getting into trouble with the law.
Can any one please help me?:eek:

What the recruiter was talking about was an inter-service transfer. This can only happen if you are eligible for re-enlistment and if there is an opening in your field in the Air Force. You will not get an dishonorable discharge for transferring, but it is not as easy as your recruiter implied. Your best bet to find out all the details is to talk to your career counselor at your base.
If you are planning to change you occupation, that may put a crimp in the transfer, but nothing is impossible. You need to talk to the career counselor to find out exactly what you need to do.

No, you can't do an inter-service transfer before boot. You have to wait until you fulfill your first enlistment.

Yes, Marine boot is challenging, but you have to have the mind set. If you say you can't before you even start, then you have defeated yourself. Keep in mind, the Marines are not trying to get rid of you, but rather bring out the best in you. Ordinary people go through boot every day and manage to pass. Just do your very best and you will surprise yourself at what you will be able to accomplish!

The Crucible is tough, but well worth what you will go through. It is a test of everything you have learned in boot. If you pay attention and retain what you are taught, then the Crucible will not defeat you. The satisfaction of completing the course is monumental and when you stand there receiving you pin, you will come to realize that you are part of a brotherhood/sisterhood that is not found anywhere else in the world. You will be a Marine.

Ok thank you. Can you do one last thing for me?
What happens at graduation? Do our parents see us get the eagle globe and anchor??

Not absolutely sure about graduation for the Marines, but I do know you will receive you Eagle, Globe, and Anchor at the end of the Crucible. This is the ceremony of brotherhood/sisterhood I was talking about.

Is there any way to find out what happens at a Marines graduation? Do you think I can ask a recruitor to find an answer??
my other question might be a recruitor strickly question--or a question that my recruitor can only answer...
If I get Lasick Eye Sugery in may, when i am supposed to leave in June... Will I Have to rejoin and start over at the beginning? or would i have to just show MEPS that i am able to work can i just continue where i am now?

I think this website will be helpful in answering your questions about boot. If you look down the right side, there's all kinds of information about graduation.

As for the eye surgery, I would check with your recruiter. Generally Lasik is not a disqualifier, but being so close to you leaving may affect your report date. You probably wouldn't have to start all over, but rather have a later reporting date.

I am so positively sure that the Marines is not for me and want to switch out but my recruitor is certain to not let me quit. When I first joined the Marines I was all gun hoe and ready to go. Now that there has been situations in my life that I seem to have lost confidence in myself after these... I am uncertain I have the mental stability to continue in the day to day struggles. I have managed to not pass a single IST and the physicals are killing me. I just am lost i guess. can i please have some advice on what to do if any?
