The Marine Corps’ unfunded priorities for fiscal 2011 include 24 new M88A2 tank recovery vehicles, seven new assault breacher vehicles and a new KC-130J tanker plane, according to a list provided to Congress by the service’s top officer.
In a letter to the House Armed Services Committee, Commandant Gen. James Conway said none of the Corps’ $351 million in unfunded projects outranks the priorities the service outlined in its $26.6 billion fiscal 2011 budget, which calls for the purchase of 74 new aircraft and nearly 500 new vehicles. Conway is expected to defend the Corps’ budget in a hearing Wednesday morning before the committee.
The unfunded priorities include the following:
Aircraft
1 KC-130J tanker planes: $79 million
2 UC-35 extended range aircraft: $56 million
3 UC-12W light-lift aircraft: $33 million
CH-53E reliability improvements: $34 million
