I'm 19 going on 20, just finished medical assistant schooling and am between that and going back to college in Atlanta. Basically I'm concerned with being able to finish my education. Have you ladies had any issues pursuing a college education during or after your enlistment? And I'm also concerned about fitness, i've read up on the requirements for the USMC fitness tests and I think they're achievable for me but I'd have to build up just a little bit. I'm a former athlete so I'm not exactly out of shape for the average person but i'm out of shape by my own standards. Should I wait to enlist and get myself back into peak condition or go in now and build my way back up during basic? And my final question is: how easy or difficult has it been to adjust to civilian life after your enlistment?

Thanks a lot in advance! :)

Hi!!
Congrats on your decision to enter the service! It is a very honorable and nobal decision to make and we thank you for it! I know you will do just fine, you seem like you have your head in the right place :). To answer your questions:
1. I am an Army vet so I cannot speak for the Marines, but many of my Soldiers had absolutely no problem continuing thier
education while they were in the military. It is encouraged for promotions. Many of my Soldiers went on to obtain bachelors and masters degrees. Some were even starting their PHD's, so it definetly can be done. Just make sure you let your supervisor know your plans and they should assist you.
2. I would encourage you to start training from now. You want to make a good impression and being in peak physical condition is a good way to start. You can start by taking a trial PT test to see where you are physically and then work on any areas you may be weak in. Trust me, you don't want to be part of the remedial PT group!
3. I can't tell you how you will adjust once you are in since everyone is different. For some it is easy while for others it is harder. Having friends and family always helps. Your battle buddies and peers are going through the same things you are so vent to them.

I hope this helps some :). Good luck and let us know how it goes!
