CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Coast Guard has rescued two out of three divers who were reported missing Sunday afternoon approximately 10-miles west of Longboat Key, Fla.
A Coast Guard Station Cortez 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew found the two men drifting in the water approximately two miles from their initial dive site.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., were contacted Sunday afternoon by the captain aboard the pleasure craft Jack Kidd stating that three divers who were using his anchor buoy as a reference point went missing after the buoy was believed to have drifted.
Station Cortez launched an RB-M boatcrew and Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew who are still searching for the remaining diver.
The recovered divers stated that the diver still missing is the most experienced of the three.
No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard urges boaters to maintain proper safety gear on board their vessel and on their person such as flares to help signal rescuers in the case of an emergency.
