I will be getting my commission in 5/05. I will be a nurse at this time. I am married and have four children. My question is if I have housing quarters available on base what are the pros and cons for my family? What are the schools like on base? What are some of the good military hospitals for nurses if you could pick as a new nurse? I want to be a flight nurse and I love ER, ICU, NICU. Would like some advise from some other nurses and their experience especially with a family. Thanks!

There are schools (at least elementary) for your children, the gas station, a shoppette (like a 7-11) the commissary (grocery store) and even your job. Childcare facilities are also located on the base (from babies to school age). There is also a youth center, and organized sports on the base. You will have no rent or electricity bill. You do have to keep up with your lawn, trash, and recycles. Cable and phone are your responsibility. My husband is Active Duty Air Force and we have always lived on the base. You will always have something in common with your neigbors Air Force hospitals I recommend are Wilford Hall (San Antonio, TX Lackland AFB) and David Grant Medical Center (Fairfield CA, Travis AFB) It all depends on where you want to relocate. Good Luck
