Well, I called my recruiter about a month + 1 week ago. He spoke with me briefly initially. I gave him my stats, he emailed hte AFSC job book. Said he'd call so we could meet. Didn't call. Called him back 4 days later. Said he'd call next Monday. Didn't call. Called him on that Thurs. Said he'd call me next Wed. Didn't call. So I'm sitting here 7 days later than he was supposed to call me last. What should I do? He said he's the only AFR recruiter for this area of AZ, and that he is really busy right now. I have a little sympathy for the guy if he's really that hard of a time, but at the same time, I don't feel like I'm being taken seriously. I had mentioned that I am trying to lose weight. I have to be 141 for MEPS and right now I'm 160. But I have a personal trainer and I'm making headway. I am worried that maybe one of the reasons he's not calling is because the weight. I don't want him to think it's not worth his time. Also, another factor is that he is located about an hour from me. What does everyone else think? Should I just be patient and wait for his call (even though he originally promised to call and meet with me over a month ago), should I call him and bug him (which I really don't want to do) or what? My interest in joining is waning a bit, which it shouldn't be. :(

It's very possible that he wont be contacting you because of the weight issue. I would suggest leaving a msg on his phone for now stating that you'll contact him back when you get closer to your weight (if not under it) to start the paperwork. It does no good for eiher of you to start something that you technically dont qualify for (weight issue) just do what you need to do to lose the weight and get healthy so you can pass. When the time comes, call him back and let him know you're serious about it (weight is right) and that you WILL be there for a mtg (or something) Document the missed phone calls, the missed mtgs and keep a log if it becomes excessive. If you get to the point that he isnt taking notice (I'd give him a month as he's the only recuiter for that part of AZ- as I'm from Phx and could agree with it) THEN you can call the AFR in Phx and ask who the supervisor would be for that person (they know all the people and my 1st Sgt is a former AZ active duty recruiter) and ask to speak with them... MAKING SURE that you told the recruiter that you're want to speak to his supervisor because of his lack of business professionalism.

If that doesnt solve anything- then make the trip to Phx and see what that recruiter can do for you.

If you still have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at gtg_usaf@yahoo.com as I'm coming home for leave to Phx at the end of March. Sometimes they'll talk to the Lt and provide information freely. I'd be happy to assist you with getting some attention :)

As a recently retired recruiter, I've got to say... you have got to be closer to the weight. Recruiters are encouraged to not spend a lot of time with disqualified applicants when they have to go out there and get the qualified applicants. When I was a rookie recruiter, I made the mistake of setting up weekly weigh-ins for overweight people, and my flight chief reprimanded me for wasting time. We are not allowed to work with disqualified applicants. I never did get one of the girls in the Air Force. They never met the weight requirement. Good Luck.
