I'm seriously considering joining the Air Force as a fully-qualified Registered Nurse. Visited Scott AFB and was thoroughly impressed with the people, though the facilities were "historical" (ie: old :) I've got the usual concerns of leaving home, etc but also of sexual harrasment issues and the like.

Ideally, I'd like to do flight nursing, but hope to start for a couple years in an ICU or ER at Wilford Hall.

Any insights you've got would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, If you really want flight nursing you can go directly into it. It is a great time. Hard work but a great time. Wilford Hall is mostly agency nursing. There are some Active Duty people there but...not many. Also, the AF reserve has alot of Flight Nurse slots. You might want to check that out. In San Antonio I think it is the 433rd Wing and the Air Evac was the 32nd. (but they are not very active) Andrews (Wash DC) Has a great squadron - used to be the 60AES - They fly alot of 'live' missions vs just training missions. Good luck and Keep an Open Mind about assignments - every place has it's advantages and disadvantages.

Still recruiting Nurses heavily. There are bonuses and loan repayments as incentives. See a recruiter! Like the lady above said, HARD WORK.
