Questions about USAF Life

I Have a couple questions about USAF life:

This may be a stupid question but, when you're in Basic Training, do you have ANY time to yourself,to explore the base,etc.?

If you enlist straight out of high school and lets just say you don't quite have your drivers license yet, what do you do?

Upon entering the USAF what Vaccinations are administered? Which ones (if any) are needed before you sign up?

1. YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME DURING BASIC TO EXPLORE THE BASE. YOU WILL GET SOME FREE TIME. 2. YOU DON'T NEED A DRIVERS LICENSE BUT YOU CAN GET ONE A YUR NEXT DUTY STATION. 3. DON'T WORRY ABOUT VACINATIONS YOU WILL GET ALL YOU NEED DURING BASIC AND DURING YOUR ACTIVE DUTY TIME.

Any time you have to yourself is usually spent making sure your uniform and ocker is on point...you do have a little free time in the last week of basic when you have the chance to go out with your family (if they come to your graduation) or fellow trainees from your flight. It isn't a vacation by far...plan to work.

You can take care of that later...don't worry about it...you'll get a military ID issued to you in basic(you thought your license picture was bad? HA...just wait!)

You will get more shots than you could imagine. You are sat down with the rest of the girls in your flight in this big room (you're sitting on the floor by the way). The you are yelled at to get in line and you are herded like cattle into this smaller room where you are given shots in each arm simultaneously. It goes so fast you don't even have enough time to stress over the shots. Everybody gets em...and everybody hates em, but they could save your life, so they're a necessary evil.

I agree with what the others say on the amount of time you have in basic and vaccinations. I would suggest though getting your license before going in. There is always that chance that you will go overseas and unless you get it on leave before going there you are SOL. Unless you want to get one in that country. My first duty station was RAF Lakenheath in England. There it would cost you around £2500. Which is about $4500. So I would suggest getting that before you go in. That's only my 2 cents.

Everyone is on the money!! I joined without a license, got England for my first base, couldn't learn to drive till I got back to the states. Hubby had to teach me. I didn't have problems getting around overseas because of all the shuttle and taxi service going on. I actually had a GREAT time!
