I am already sold on the idea of enlisting, but I have many, many questions.**First, any suggestions on what can be done to lose about 20 lbs. so that I can make it to meps.**Also, what is the possibility of getting a MOS that I would like? Are African American women permitted to wear braids in their hair as long as they are above the collar?** I really want to join as soon as possible, any encouragement and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated.**I know this will be a challenging experience, and I know this will be an opportunity of a lifetime for me.**HELP! I need some feedback.

Hi Kathy!**First of all, you CAN wear your hair in braids, as long as it's above the collar and without too many whisps sticking out. Cutting it short is convenient, but believe it or not there are people out there who are ignorant enough to think that having short hair automatically makes you a lesbian and will hassle you about it.**Getting the MOS you want depends entirely upon what positions the army has available and what they need people for (they might try to talk you into doing something else if they're desperate for people in a different MOS).**As for losing weight, everybody knows that you have to burn more calories than you consume so I won't bore you with that; the way that works best for you will be trial and error.**In my case what worked was always thinking about basic training.**The combination of really wanting to get into the army and get through basic as smoothly as possible (the better shape you're in, the easier it will be) gave me the motivation to do all of that running and all of those push-ups.**You will be amazed at what you'll be able to do once you make the committment to do it.**Think of how proud (and relieved!) you'll be when you make it through basic and are officially a soldier.**Best of luck,**Jenna** p.s.**since you want to enlist ASAP, go ahead.**The paperwork can take a while so get that started and then think about the weight you want to lose (don't let 20 lbs stop you!).
