I have been doing a lot of reserach on MOS's and I have decided that I would really like to do Broadcast Journalism. My recruiter however, basically told me that there is no openings for that job and that I need to pick something different. Does anyone have any ideas on this? From what I've been reading this MOS would be the most intersting to me. I think I would really enjoy it. I really want to join the Army but I am not going to pick a job that I know I will be unhappy with just to get in. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you, Glenda

Broadcast journalism is very hard to get into and you have to pass the screening for it as well. Your recruiter is right. I would suggest you open your mind up to other possibilities as there are plenty of jobs out there that are very interesting. You say you really want to join the Army...well, sometimes you have to make concessions in order to achieve the end goal - being the Army itself. No one is saying you have to sign up for just anything just to get in, just that you have to broaden your horizons.

Well, I have done research. I started out wanting the band. But, I'm not sure about that anymore. I would consider a Medical MOS but I've heard the same thing about these fields. I've even considered Parachute Rigging but I just don't see myself doing it for the next 4 years. I want Broadcast Journalism because I am most interested in this field. I want to join the service and the army makes the most since to me but I would consider another branch if I could do broadcast journalism. However, I've heard that most of them say that this is a tough MOS. The thing that confuses me is why don't they list that these are hard to get or that there aren't any availabilities for these jobs on the goarmy.com website? It would make more since because I really was excited about this MOS and I have sort of been let down..

My advice is to hold out for a little bit. An opening might just pop up. Ask your recruiter to contact you if it does. Very hard to get into, as you say. Maybe try a few related MOSs such as Psyops. Also, don't pass up print journalism. It's what my Dad did in the Army, he had tons of fun. He would just hop in a hummer and zip around Germany, covering the different units' exercises. You get to meet all kinds of people, and you're not loaded down by a lot of equipment. A camera, a little notebook, a pen or two, and maybe a microcasette recorder. There's newspapers on almost every base. Of course you have to enjoy writing, but consider it. You might even get Airborne on your contract, if that's your cup of tea:).

Hiya Glenda,I am sorta in the same situation you are,I already work in the medical field and that's the type of MOS I want, but they are saying at this time no openings..bummer eh :( I also feel as you do I don't want to take a job for 4 yrs, knowing it won't profit me..cuz I wanted something else I feel don't take a job if you dont think or know you won't like it,cuz you won't benefit and niether will your Unit and so forth, but as it was stated sometimes we have to take what is offered and make the best of it :) So good luck and I hope it works out :)
