31U at Fort Leonard Wood

I will be leaving for basic at Fort Leonard Wood on May 22. If anyone has had 31 U for their MOS can you please tell me what to expect. Also a little insight on what to expect at basic would be very helpful. My boyfriend went there years ago and he says that things have changed since he has been there. On my list of items that I need to have it says running sneakers, should I buy those now or wait til I go? Thanks

Can't help you with your MOS, but basic is basic no matter where you go. Little things change, but overall if you read through the messages here and on the main board you'll get a good idea. Buy your running shoes now and invest in a really good pair. You'll need them.

Is there a special kind that I get or a certain color? The SGT at MEPS said that they might make me buy another pair at the PX.

They might make you do that simply because they may possibly wish to maintain unit uniformity. However, I doubt that. One of the reasons the military went to running in sneakers as opposed to combat boots was because of all the damage that is done to the knees and hips. As long as it is a good quality running shoe and not some off the wall tennis shoe, you shouldn't have any problems. It will cost you some to get a good pair, but in the long run you will be thankful you spent the money. They will last you longer and save you problems later in life.

Thanks for the advice. Do you have anymore that I could use when I leave? Also I have heard that wake up call was at 430 I also heard that it was 230. Can you straighten it out for me? I am not worried about getting up early, I just want to get my body on a schedule so it will be easier for me when I go.

HI THERE - I AM ALSO A 31U. I WENT TO FORT JACKSON FOR BASIC AND THEY TOLD US TO BUY RUNNING SHOES BEFORE WE WENT TO BASIC AND THEY MADE US BUY NEW ONES AT BASIC, NO MATTER WHAT, SO I WOULD SUGGEST NOT BUYING NEW RUNNING SHOES PRIOR TO GOING TO BASIC. YOU ARE PROBALLY GOING TO FORT GORDON? I CAN'T TELL YOU TOO MUCH ABOUT FORT GORDON BECAUSE I HAD TO LEAVE JUST A FEW DAYS AFTER I GOT THERE WITH FAMILY PROBS AT HOME - BUT I WILL BE BACK THERE FOR MY MOS IN ABOUT A MONTH..
