I have just read the webpage for George Bush's run for President at www.GeorgeWBush.com and the man has some great ideas for the military. Also checked Al Gore's official website, it did not even mention the military so we know how high a priority on his list we are. Now for my rantings, which will soon come to an end as I deploy to Bosnia next month so then you won't have to listen to me :-) but a lot of Bush's ideas I agree with and here is why. I am disgusted with the state of the military today and I don't know where to start so I'll begin with women in Combat and go from there to go ahead and turn as many of you off as I can. The issue is a stupid one folks let's put an end to it. America is not ready for women to be alongside men in combat period. Forget the we can do it, we are just as good as men, it is just years of discrimination and all the other hogwash. We are America's military, and by and large the American public does not want it and we go along with what the public wants plain and simple. Heck we cannot even elect a woman to send men into combat, have a woman Vice President or even a Secretary of Defense. How then can we have women in combat if we can't even get a woman in a position to send the men. Besides if a viable option let's do it then create an all female infrantry unit, train them to standards period that a men's infrantry unit must adhere to and let's send them to Battle and end the stupid discussion once and for all. Hell we have "experimented" with every other social engineering politically correct idea to come along why not this one. What are the higher ups scared of that it won't work? Put the issue to rest once and for all use them as an experimental force in battle if they seem to take an inappropriate number of casualties then simply be ready to back them up with a traditional infrantry unit and get them the hell out, if they prove their worth then hey keep em and the military is better for it we have an answer to the question once and for all I for one could care less as we are here to win wars with or without women in combat. If they can do it hey I would be proud to serve alongside them as I have been with many women in my command already. If they lose then we continue with the status quo and allow women in, just not in combat units.
Secondly, I am disgusted with the military's catering to the lowest common denominator in society to get them to join. We seem to go after not the best and brightest but the worst and laziest. Offering thousands of $$$ to those whose lackluster performance in high school denied them a chance of a college education so we provide them the money for one. If unmotivated to work in high school for a college education what in the world makes the military think they'll be more apt and motivated to work for us. Most are looking for easy college money plain and simple. Give me a job any job as long as I can get the money, most have no idea what the job is they are signing up for, most have no intention of serving longer than it takes to get the money. Then heaven forbid they find out they don't like the job they signed for or the military period. Instead of this option why not offer military science options in high school? We offer advance courses for those who want to go to college why not a "mini-BASIC" for those who may want to join the military during their senior year in high school and have recruiters go after those who complete this course. This gives those who may want to join an idea of military life and also will weed out those who are possibly looking for an easy $50,000 better yet only offer the $50,000 to those students who complete this course and decide to join and the regular GI Bill to the others. Also get rid of the stupid GED program that Sec Cohen signed off on what a waste if they cannot complete 4 years of high school then how can we expect them to complete 4 years of military service which is harder. Some may say "well they had family problems that prevented them from completing high school" well the very same family problems will probably and more than likely prevent them from completing their military tours as well. We take in Single Parents looking for a way to make a living to raise their child and expect the government to be the parent lacking in their families. Again when it comes down to it why are they joining is it to benefit the military or their parentless child. We take in unwed fathers and mothers and then reward their irresponsibility of being baby factories by rewarding them with more money in their paychecks for the children give them a free house etc. It is a sad state of affairs when an unwed parent at 17 years old some with 3 and 4 children all with different mothers or fathers who started when they were 13 years old are deemed more responsible and therefore able to live off base and in government housing than those single soldiers who have managed to maintain some of their morals and put off having children till they are married (my apologies to those single parents who are that way because of divorce, death, and other circumstances beyond their control). Heck you would think it would be these folks that we would want in the barracks to keep an eye on with their children to keep them from getting pregnant or fathering more children (and putting even more strain on an already overburdened "Army Dependent Program") than the more responsible young soldiers we house like cattle now.
Third Gays in the military see the first paragraph again the majority of the American Public is not ready for this either, since we live in a country where majority rules then we go with the majority who say no. We are America's military not a fringe group of liberal politicians and a minority of America's population military but all of America's military (some would say all of the world's military) and again the American Public does not support it when they do then it will more than likely happen until then why force the flippin' issue further? Again when we can have an openly homosexual CINC, Vice-CINC or Sec. of Defense then maybe it will occur to me it makes no difference one way or the other as long as they don't flaunt it, harass me, and do their job it is a non-issue but again one that the public doesn't seem to want and until it does it more than likey ain't gonna happen. However that does not give us the right to beat to death the ones that may be serving now, nor to "out" them when doing a job and performing at it well.
Fourth, stop with the social experimentation already, enough of the PC crap we do not need more classes on sexual harassment, etc. Face up to the fact that women are in the military just not combat and will be. Find me a large civilian company where sexual harassment doesn't occur, find a company where office romances do not occur. To believe men and women will work together and not be sexually attracted to one another is STUPID. It goes against the very basic drive of evolution that has produced our next generation of human beings for the last few million years get over it. Police marry and have relationships within the office, so do firemen both put their lives on the line to expect less in the military is crazy. Also time to grow up women, you want to be placed in combat and yet can't seem to defend yourself when a man makes an off color comment you don't like. Bring back the good ole days when women were smart enough to crack the guy upside the head if he harassed them. There will be no lawyers on the battlefield ladies if you can't deal with men making passes, off color humor etc without a lawyer how can you deal with a gun pointed in your face. The enemy is the enemy doesn't matter whose uniform he is wearing ours or theirs deal with both appropriately and damn the consequences. If a Drill Sgt comes on to you in Basic to hell with the Chain of Command call the Cops same with rape etc. Will there be consequences you may not want duh isn't life full of them especially a military life. We also do not need classes on our "cultural differences" what cultural differences if you are here and wearing the uniform you are AMERICAN GOOD OLE' USA plain and simple not African American, Native American, Indian-American, Spanish-American and any other myriad of hyphenated American we have labeled ourselves with to seperate us from who and what we are American period!!! Yes we have our differences but those differences have brought us together as a nation far more than they have torn us apart as a people. Don't give me the Discrimination crap either all ethnic groups are discriminated against hell it is why our country was founded to begin with or do schools teach the reason why the Pilgrims left England anymore. See Pilgrims were driven from their lands, the Native American's their lands, the African Americans taken from their land and placed on this one. Mexican Americans had the majority of their land taken to make America to begin with does it really flippin matter we are here in this country make the best of it or leave.
Fifth I am tired of the lower class living conditions and lifestyle we have and how we are perceived by the American public. We are seen as the dregs of society once again let a crime happen on a college campus and it rarely gets off campus let a crime happen in the military it is all over the news. In the Army alone we have over 400,000 soldiers drawn from society. Show me a city of that size where a crime does not happen on a daily Basis, the media expects us to be able to draw people from society and not reflect the same sorry state of values, morals and deeds that have corroded American Society and therefore America's military. Want less crime in the military America? Then I suggest we start teaching those values and traditions that will produce less crime in society as well.
Finally, I believe we can once again become a great fighting force if we get those in charge who can make a difference. It is time we started to worry about something more in our country than how much money we have in our wallets as this seems to be the defining issue when it comes to electing our leader's in our country today. The time will come if we aren't careful when we will fail as a nation if we cannot get back to Basic issues that made the military great and a force for good instead of a force to promote social, political, and private agendas. Ronald Reagan once said something to the effect that he would hate to have his grandchildren sitting on his knee, and telling them stories about a place that once existed where men could live free, where leaders were chosen by virtue and character as well as leadership traits, where everyone could if they worked hard enough and believed enough could achieve anything they wanted, and as he told his grandchild this story to look out his window and see an emblem other than the Stars and Stripes flying over his homeland. Now you all can feel free to slam me, try to blow up my computer etc for my comments just do it fast as I leave in two weeks :-). God Bless our military and our country.
