View Full Version : Took ASVAB today...Some questions about physical

Hello!

I finally took my ASVAB today (after several delays). My recruiter said I did excellent on it. I scored an 80 overall and 110's and 120's in the 12 sections. I don't know how to read the point system so I'll take his word for it.

Next Tuesday, I will be picked up at my home and taken to a motel near the MEPS, where I have my physical the following Wednesday. The only concern I have about the physical is my teeth and gums! I am 30 and have never had dental insurance. I need to be treated for receding gums and one in particular in the bottom front is quite bad. Besides a couple of fillings that fell out many years ago, my teeth themselves are fine. I expressed my concerns to my recruiter but he didn't seem worried. He only worried about if a dentist had ever told me I have a problem! I haven't been able to go to a dentist in 14 years, so no, no one has told me! I'm worried they'll see it at the physical and disqualify me... Or is this something I can get a waiver on since it's treatable?

Assuming I can get through the physical, I am also wondering about how different the process is for Reserve enlistees as opposed to Rergular Army. My recruiter told me the following Saturday after my physical I will be taken to my unit for a drill and get uniforms and take a tour of the place. But I won't even go to Basic until summer! I thought you didn't get uniforms until Reception when you arrive at Basic. he also said I could go to up to nine drills while waiting to go to Basic and get paid for them! What am I going to do at my Reserve unit with no Basic or AIT training?

I would appreciate any input on these questions...

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I took my physical two weeks ago at meps. They didn't really look at your teeth. They just had to open your mouth and basically say ahh. There weren't any questions on the medical sheet about teeth either.

I am going in the guard and in sort of the same perdicament as you. I won't leave for basic until May and I have to go to drill weekends before I leave. I was told that they were going to give me my uniform and drill with me before I go. I was also told that I would just watch what was going on. Look at it this way, you are getting paid to observe.

Hello!

Well, that's great news if they don't look at teeth and gums too much! I am just worried because the questions were in his little laptop!

If I go to drill just to observe, hopefully I'll get to hang out with the people doing my MOS so I'll have a little advantage in AIT!

Is that whe nthey take your picture? All of my friends and family are more worried about getting my picture than anything else I'll be going through! That's the last thing on my mind!

I also wonder, do women have to wear the skirts for their class A and B uniforms? In high school ROTC we all wore pants. Just curious...

Thanks, Kevy Rae

I was told that when I go to drill I will be with people in my MOS. Lucky for me there are 10 people in mine all male(not a problem) and we have a tiny little room in the basement. OH JOY!

I dont know when they take your picture. I haven't had mine taken. Is it for military id or the actualy in military picture? I don't know about the uniforms. Hopefully we can wear pants, I am not a skirt person. They always seem to expose more than I want. I know right now I am in Civil Air Patrol an auxillary of the AF and we have a choice over pants or skirts.

You will get your picture taken during Basic Training. (You're talking about the one in front of the flag, right?) You will also wear pants more often than skirts. When you are in pants it makes a formation of men and women look more uniform. I only wore my skirt when I felt like it or at formal occasions.

Good luck to both of you!
