Ft Sam: 91X AIT - weekends off?

I've been told that I should get most weekends off during AIT. Does anyone know if this is true? My boyfriend is very unsure about me joining the army because he doesn't think we'll ever get to see each other. He only lives a couple of hours away from Ft. Sam and having weekends free would be wonderful. I just want to know what to expect.

At first you will not have weekends off but after a couple of weeks depending on your grades and what duties are due you start getting more time off.
