Hi! I am going to the MEPS a week from today to take my ASVAB, DELAB, and physical. I am trying to get qualified to be a linguist or a signal/intel analyst. My questions are this: 1) What should I take with me for the two day MEPS ordeal? 2) What is the DELAB like? 3) What do they do to you in the physical? Is it hard? 4) What do I take to basic(since I am determined to join)? 5) What should I do to get in shape? Currently, I am over my weight range for my height, but my muscle/fat percentage is ok. And my recruiter has me doing tennis ball squeezes, situps, and pushups, to try and bring it further down by a weedk from tomorrow when I have my physical. 6) Is the "joining" contract in legal terms or something I can understand? 7) Is there access to phones, email, etc in basic? If not, when? 8) What should I wear to the MEPS? (I have been told a sports bra is good?) 9) Is there lowcost insurance in the military (I have high insurance here--and that has my student discounts(college) and life insurance)? 10) Is there any days off in basic(ie. Sunday)? 11) What are the barracks like (esp. at Fort Jackson)? 12) What should I do to survive basic(I think it will be kinda fun--cause I love a challenge)? 13) Is there anyone that would be interested in being a friend--that I could turn to with questions or when I need to talk/support--because my family is totally against this, and has refused to communicate with me if I join, will disinherit me, and I even had to have my recruiter do a telephone birth verification and stuff cause my parents wouldn't get my SS card and birth certificate out of the bank. I would appreciate it very much. I will appreciate your answers and advice very much. My email address is

I check it more often than I come here.

The MEPs was kind of fun i thought. I went last june, but i havent gone to basic yet. You go the day before and get checked in to the motel. Mine was at a Holiday Inn in Cleveland and the motel was awesome, there was alot of things to do. Your meals are free so you dont really need any money. You could wear whatever you want that day, but bring your bathing suit cause they usually have a pool there. Dont go to bed to late because you have to get up at 4am! I think we got on the bus around 5am after breakfast (i imagine they are all the same). Be prepared for a long day and bring a magazine to keep in your locker there if you want, because you will be SO bored waiting! It dont matter what kind of bra you wear, just as long as you wear one! but be prepared to do all kinds of weird exercises with other girls. Drink lots of water for the pee test while your there. they do an eye, ear, and blood test also. oh yeah, some doctor is gonna look in your bum too, LoL. you might want to bring an extra change of clothes in case you have to stay there another day and finish a test or two. its not as bad as i thought it would be, youll meet alot of people and have alot of fun. let me know where your going for basic....im going to flw on june 30, good luck

okay I'm sure you are already signed and ready to go...but I have a quick word of advice: being a linguist myself I suggest that you make sure your mos is 98C, just trust me on this one. If you go in as a 98XL they get to decide what you will be later. good luck! Tricia
