Sorry, I have to chuckle over this one. The gas chamber is a gas!!!LOL Don't worry, it sounds scarier than it really is. If there really is trouble with your mask your DI's get you out toot sweet. Otherwise you either stand in there and look at each other like idiots or possibly do some exercises. When you take off your mask, it's for a purpose, so you can experience the effects. They hurry you out so you don't get dosed to much. It won't hurt you. Your eyes will burn, don't touch your face with your hands until they are thouroughly washed. You might cough a little. But it's nothing life threatening. I used to look forward to going to the chamber.

I have to agree with Paula. There's no need to get worked up over the chamber. I remember it well, being petrified, told to take my mask off. I went in there with a raging sinus infection...funny how it was gone when I came out :)

You'll laugh when it's all over, trust me.

Try not to work up a sweat before going into the chamber. CS (military tear gas) is attracted by moisture. Once inside, while you still have the mask on, try to get your eyes to dryup (try not blinking alot). When you take the mask off, breath thru your nose in shallow breaths (when possible). Once outside, face into the wind and keep your eyes open. If your smoke, make sure you covered the cigarrets before going in and wash your hands before you light up.

I spent 22 years in the Army as a Chemical NCO and ran units thur chambers often enough to work inside without a mask.

Make sure you enter the chamber with people you know or trust not to get hysterical. I know they like you to stay in there long enough to get a good whif and truly experience it so you won't freak out the first time you get gassed, and mainly so you will trust your gas mask. Several girls in my outfit didn't trust their gas masks and when doing night hikes they always tore off their masks and ran into the woods whenever they thought we were being gassed. The rest of us had to chase after them and drag them back, all hysterical and crying for no reason except they liked to panic over everything. The gas masks work GREAT. When we went into the chamber for training, all had to pull off their masks, then each person had to state name, rank, social security number, and one of the fools decided to panic and tried to run out. She was stopped and the rest of us in there were trying to hold our breath as long as possible. We were extremely mad at the idiots who acted hysterically and made the rest of us suffer, as a result.
