Do a little bit of research. 91B is a Medical Specialist, yes, they are trained to be combat medics but the majority are medics in hospitals, clinic, and on ambulances. I would recomend any of the 91 series career field, which are all the medical MOS'. Now anyone who goes into the 91 series will go through the 91B course first and then onto whatever MOS they choose. I've also heard that they may change the 91B to a higher level of training. Basically, don't listen to your brother until you talk to a recruiter. Good luck...

Dear Suzie: No matter what 91 series MOS you go into you will still have to take the 91B course. This is considered a basic training course in how the Army does things in the medical field. The one thing you will learn is basic patient care(bed making, bed baths, basic massage, how to set a bed pan), you will also learn how to read Intervenous fluid bottles and learn to start IV's. I understand know it is more like an EMT Course which in a way is a good start. If you really want to go to an MOS that is closest to a doctor try the Physician Assistance program. This is mostly a Warrent Officer course and you work closly with the physicians. If I can be of any further help just let me KNow I was a Medic 91B20 for 5 years but from the old school. I have been out for 20+ years to things have changed but From reading here and on the army web site the basic 91B course has only intensified to an EMT course but not much different than when I was in. Hi Suzie, just to update on what Gail said, Physician Assistants (PA'S) are now commisioned. They started doing that in the Army about 10yrs ago. You'll only find a few die hard Warrent Officers on the reserve side. Take care.

You really had better reseach more than one MOS area. I just left MEPS last week and though I scored 99 on the ASVAB and was qualified for everything, there was just not a lot available, like in computers or any of the specialities you are talking about. Intelligence seemed to have a few slots and combat services. Communications is wide open 31's. But you are talking about a highly sought after field which was frozen (x-ray tech). I talked to sgts & officers who said these choice fields are being moved into by those who are already in. It only makes sense. I was really disappointed. I ended up with 91A though I wanted some kind of counselling MOS. Computers were frozen, even 71L & 71M(Admin). Research the MOS's yourself because 91A is medical equipment repair specialist (which turned out to be a lucky get). The only reason I got it is because I'm not in school and can leave in April. Most students will have each other to compete with this summer. Choose as soon as you can and research some other alternatives. Make sure you can use it when you get out--that's the key.
