Help! I am shipping to basic in June and I can barely run half a mile and do 2 pushups. How can I increase my running? How can I increase the number and speed of my pushups? Please help me.

Check previous threads in this category. There are excellent ideas on here that will help you immensely. Get started now and no problem. Don't be intimidated because you have never done this before. You'll be surprised at how quickly you get in shape.

Rebecca, you probably are lacking the most basic part of a workout which is the warm up. This will give you the addrenalin and blood flow you need to perform. Try good stretching and jumping jax, arm circles. Try a 15 minute warm-up that has your heart pumping a good bit, a slight sweat. Do the push up and sit up after you jog. Start a rapid walk, then set a goal on the near horizon to reach and run to it, then rapid walk again. Time yourself on a one mile distance and get it down to 10 minutes. You can do it. You will see the difference. Warm up and you will find you have plenty of energy left. I leave April 12th for Ft. Leonardwood.

Do push-ups, sit-ups, and run. You have to do them to improve. Do as many push-ups as you can everyday. Go to your knees if you can't do them in the regular position. But keep pushing. Sit-ups...the same. Do as many as you can everyday, and you'll find that you'll be able to do more and more. Run...the same. Start with a mile every time you train. You can jog, but make sure you keep moving. Don't get in the habit of stopping to walk.
In order to get better, you just have to do it. Start now to give yourself that time to build up, but don't wait until you get to basic. I saw many males and females suck wind and suffer because they didn't prepare themselves ahead of time.
Happy training! SPC Chang
