I am doing a research paper of the MOH and the Soldier's Medal, both are equal in the sense that they are for heroic actions, but the first in combat and the second non combat.I am trying to see if women are discriminated against when it comes to the recommendations of the two medals. Only one woman has received the MOH and that was long before women played an active role in the military. I was surprised though that no other woman has received one, not in Vietnam or anywhere else where there was a conflict and female soldiers were present. After reading many reports on situations women had to endure and the lives they saved, they all should have received a medal, but anyway, no one has been able to help me with the question of how many women have received a Soldier's Medal. I even contacted the war library and tried the office of the CSM of the Army, they then referred me to a site, but not one with that particular information. I cannot believe that no one is keeping track of that. I was an Army spouse for almost 28 years, but never knew anyone who had received that medal, but then again I probably did not pay attention to the subject at that time. A lot of Veterans and others have been so helpful in getting much of the information I need, but mostly men responded. I got this address today and hope that someone will be able to guide me into the right direction. I have been doing this for three weeks and have had no luck so far with that question, until just yesterday I did not even get any information about any woman who has received the SM. I only have a couple of days to get this information now. Thank you so much for listening and I hope someone knows. Doris :-)
