Hello Everyone! I have the pleasure of just receiving my direct commission into the USAR. I am having my pinning ceremony and Oath next week and I was wondering if there exists a tradition relating to the first enlisted who salutes you. I have heard rumor that the officer is supposed to give the enlisted member a silver dollar? Is this true? My recruiter has worked very hard to get me where I am now and I would like to honor her properly and by Army tradition. Any help by next Friday would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, 2LT Krista Kalweit

Actually this is kinda a tradition, as I remember standing outside the Academy at Ft. Sam as all the new Lt's finished up with OCS and got pinned and they would give us Silver Dollars. It is not as traditional now I don't think however. Actually one of the new gold dollar coins would make a good start though and Congradulations and Welcome to the US Army Ma'am.

Actually it is still a tradition to give a silver dollar to the first enlisted person to salute you. I just recieved on just a few weeks ago from a lady who just got her 2LT and is going to FT Rucker for flight. I've recieved many over the years. If I were you I'd just have your recruiter there to salute you. Congratulations and good luck to you. D'Hana
