Hi Suzie! Sorry I can't tell you much about Ft. Jackson from personal experience, but I can tell you that a lot of my friends really enjoyed it there. I can't recall many negative things about Ft. Jackson. However, I can tell you that you'll love Ft. Sam Houston. I've been here now for 14 weeks, and am glad that I don't leave for another 19 weeks. I really enjoy it here. I'm not a 91C, I'm a 91P, but the Charlies are in my company and most of them are friends of mine. As a 91C you will have to attend 10 weeks of 91B school. It was a very interesting and fun course. It just taught basic combat medic skills. From there you will have 6 weeks of classroom courses for the 91C. After completion of those 6 weeks, you will move on to your Phase II or On the Job Training Site where you will work in a hospital for the remainder of the course. The 91C course requires a lot of time. It is very challenging. But, it is also a very rewarding MOS! There is a lot to do in San Antonio and it is very easy to forget what you are here for. Study hard during the week, so you can enjoy your weekend. Oh in case you are wondering, the first 4-5 weeks of 91B, you won't be allowed civilian clothes or off-post passes, but you have plenty of freetime on the weekends to get necessary things done. After those 4-5 weeks are over, you are allowed to wear civilian clothes and take overnight weekend passes. Just remember to keep your priorities in order, or your privileges will be taken away from you. Hopefully, I've helped you out a bit. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm sure D'HANA will be able to give you some helpful information as well. If I remember correctly she is a 91C. She's always good about helping everyone out! Good luck and May God Bless!

Congratulations on your enlistment! With a medical MOS like that, you can't go wrong.
I went through basic at Ft Jackson back in 94. It was a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. You are lucky that you are going during the fall/winter as summers there are just plain miserable (I was there Jan-May so that wasn't bad, but was stationed at Ft Gordon in 97 and summers are MUGGY!)
I think the main highlight of basic for all of us there was getting to go on Victory Tower. It looks huge and imposing when you start off, but is a riot and doesn't look so intimidating once you go off the rappel tower.
Columbia, SC is a nice town, not that you'll be seeing much of it but still. Ft Jackson itself isn't that large within the main post, the training areas are extensive though. Don't sweat it, keep your mind in the right gear and show your stuff and you'll be alright.
I'm stationed here in San Antonio, but I"m not on Ft Sam. The only reason I go up there is that's where my personnel records are kept - I'm down on Lackland on a joint assignment. But...Ft Sam is really nice. I like the feel of that post. As was told to you, keep your studies your main priority and save your weekends for play time. Quite a few of the clubs are 18 and up so you will have the stress relief from studying and outside of that, there are soooo many things to do. This by far, is one of the better places to be in the Army.
