Hello, i am a student very much interested in joining either the FIELD ENGINEERS or the INFANTRY.. and i am doing a project on both, if there is anyone who has taken up one of these 'trades' i would really like to know your feelings on it, what is it really like to be a woman in these fields? i have male friends in the army who are VERY much approving of females, but i would like to hear it from a womans point of view..

thanks kristyl

Have friends in the engineers who love it, but I hate to burst your bubble on the infantry. Until things change you have no chance of becoming infantry. You are female and women are not allowed in infantry MOS's.

The Army's policy: No female is assigned to combat Military Occupation Specialties at this time. This includes positions such as infantry, Abrams tank crew members, certain reconn scout positions, etc. The other 240 or positions are open to women. The Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard have their own policies regarding the Combat Exclusion Act. This would include the Navy's sub crews. This is a law passed by Congress. Perhaps your friend does work with females, this is entirely possible, they simply don't have combat MOSs, probably support positions such as weapons and ordnance or Chemical. Keep in mind, to join the Army you need to be a citizen or permament legal resident of the United States, to be an officer, you need to be a citizen. Please stop by the Army's recruiting website to see what jobs we do offer:). We even have a chatroom now to answer specific questions. Best of luck!
