this may or may not sound like a strange problem/fear, but regardless, here goes:

while looking at pics of the leadership labs & other stuff that I'll be doing in my rotc classes and basic & advanced camps, I noticed some pictures of people blindfolded holding their m-16's and either jumping or being shoved into the water off of a high dive board. my worry is that I can't swim or dive etc underwater without plugging my nose ... I don't know how... please don't laugh :) does anyone have any tips for me on how to get over this? also could anyone who's been through this possibly tell me what is happening and what to expect? thanks

I just returned from Advanced Camp and the swimming test you are speaking of is ether a go or a no go, it involves several steps. 1-swim so many meters I think 75, 2-carry an M16 and swim the width of the pool, 3-blind-folded w/ M16 and jumping of high dive, 4-putting on web gear(LBE)and M16 and jumping off the dge and removing while floating, and then 5-LBE and M16 and sinking to the bottom and not coming up until you have all equipment off of you. I had a friend who went this summer that had a bad expereince when she was little so she never learned to swim and all they did was take her into the shallow end and teach her to swim, she got a no go but it didn't count for any points on her accessions packet it only mattered for Recondo badge. Your MSIV's should be able to explain to you what goes on at Basic Camp and Advanced camp, there is also a web site that tells you what to expect at camp www.rotc.monroe.army.mil/ if that doesn't answer them, please feel free to contact me.
