Becky, how overweight are you? For someone, say, 5'3", your maximum is 134lbs. I think it goes up in twos, like if you're 5'4", your maximum is 136, and so on. They'll accept you if your bodyfat is okay, but be smart and DON'T GO IN AS A WEIGHT RECRUIT! They'll always watch what you eat, you have markings on all of your clothes that you're overweight, etc. I was overweight, (before joining the Marines) so I exercised everyday, and ate a low carbohydrate diet. I'm 5'3" and weighed 150, now I weigh 128. It's not that hard if you are determined enough. The most important thing to do is run, and you'll need to be able to run at basic anyways.
Also, consider this. The Navy's height/weight requirements are a LOT less lenient, check them out too if you don't think you could lose a full 30lbs. But if the Army is really what you have your heart set on, you should go for it. good luck, lara
