Becky, not to sound harsh here and I am sure I will get and take the flak for it, but here goes. Your letter did not really say what you are doing to fix the problem at hand. You know that you are overweight and you know that you want to go into the Army right? So here we go here come the hits, other than whining and complaining about being overweight can I ask what you are doing to solve the problem, not that you aren't doing anything but that is the impression I got from reading your letter. Going and talking to the recruiter will be a big help as many can put you on an exercise program, granted it will then be up to you to find the motivation within yourself to do the program they put you on. I would suggest a workout program about an hour long each day. To include sit-ups, push-ups and running. Start slowly at first doing what you can accomplish and remembering to stretch before exercising. Granted this does not have to involve a gym. Actually you are better off not going to a gym as you will not be going to one in BASIC. Treadmills I do not like for the simple fact that in BASIC you run the streets and sidewalks not a treadmill so might as well get your legs used to the punishment they will take pounding the pavement now. Again ask your recruiter to place you on a pt program and with others in your area who are joining you may be able to hook up with and do pt with. Again you are on the right track, you have identified the problem, now the challenge is to do something about it. Asking for help on here is a step in the right direction however rest assured nobody is going to force you to run, nobody is going to force you to lose the weight this will have to come from inside. In short you must be motivated to overcome the problem. There will be those that will offer you encouagement and advice but when it boils down to it only you can lose the weight. I would even suggest maybe seeing a physician who can place you on a sensible not a fadish diet to help you in your goal. But again talk with a recruiter most can tell you how to go about losing weight in a sensible manner and the better shape you are in before going the easier time you will have at BASIC. Good luck and stay motivated that is the biggest key, again you know you have to lose the weight, so the next thing is to set about goals and ways to achieve it.
