Hi, I am going to be joining the Army under the DEP and will be shipping out around February 2001. I guess I have the same fears as a lot of people do about basic but the one I worry about the most would be the obstacle course. Honestly, I was never a good jumper and after seeing the hurdles we need to jump I am a bit unsure if I can do it. I don't want to fail! Can anyone give me some advice or tell me a little more about this obstacle course?

Thanks!

: Rebecca don't worry about the obstacle course. It's not that hard at all, I personally have not done the ARMY's exact one, but I went through all of the courses at Parris Island which include a Confidence Course, Obstacle Course and some others. I'm only 5'3", and a lot of obstacles require you to hurdle 6' walls and climb a 'skyscraper' that's three stories high. It wasn't easy, I though I couldn't do it, but after you do do it, it feels great. So don't even worry about not being able to do it. Because you will. Good jumper or no, they'll get you over there. Good luck

Hi, you shouldn't worry about the obstacle course. I just graduated basic from fort Jackson and did the obstacle courses and all. Everything is about safety at BCT. Yeah there will be a few high ones but they will have nets or mats underneath. If you know where you are going to basic I can help you with information. Rebecca
