I've read a couple of the other posts on this site about contacts. But I have glasses and hard contacts. I have astigmatizm and I have tried some soft contacts but they don't work as well as my hard ones. And if you have ever used hard contacts you'll know that once you get something in your eye, you gotta stop what your doing and clean them. Does anyone know any really good soft contacts or will I be aloud to wear my glasses, or will they make me where the BCG? Thanks for your help:) Susan

As has been strongly recommended in all of the other posts about contacts - don't bother with them at basic training. You will NOT have the time to stop and take care of them if something gets in your eye (and plenty of stuff will) and if you lose them, you are out of luck...not to mention the horrible thought of wearing them into the gas chamber.

I personally wore my own glasses while I was there, but there was a problem with my BCG issue - I wear bifocals and was given the wrong prescription. They will take your civilian glasses and scan them with some machine, so do take them with you. Wear the BCG's, you might not have a choice anyway, it's all up to your drills. No, they aren't fashionable, but when you get to your first duty assignment, you can get another eye exam and get one of the new style of frames they have out now - I love mine.

Don't take this lightly...your eye health is very important.

Hi. I went through basic in the post-Aberdeen days, so wearing anything other than BC's (birth control glasses-dubbed so b/c they are truly THAT unattractive!) was out of the question. Your going to have a hard enough time with your glasses. I.E When I shot to qualify it was raining and I couldn't see a thing! I still managed to qualify though. Also, there is no wearing contacts in the gas chamber. Save yourself some time and aggravation; take your prescription glasses (just in case they don't make you wear the BC's) but prepare yourself for the jokes. You know what though, those glasses really do build character :).

Good Luck in Basic.
