ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Coast Guard has rescued a man and his dog from a disabled sailing vessel near the San Mateo Bridge at approximately 5 p.m. today.

Coast Guard Sector San Francisco received a mayday call from a distressed sailor at 3:18 p.m. The man stated that he felt like his 33-foot sail boat was going to capsize. The Coast Guard immediately launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, from Air Station San Francisco and a 25-foot response boat, from Station San Francisco.

At approximately 4:25 p.m. a Coast Guard helicopter crew arrived on scene and lowered a rescue swimmer to verify the safety of the man and dog aboard the boat. After the Coast Guard's response boat arrived on-scene and the rescue swimmer determined the man and dog were healthy and safe, the helicopter left the scene.

A 41-foot Utility Boat from Station San Francisco was launched from Yerba Buena Island at 5:15 p.m. to tow the disabled vessel to shore. The 25-foot response boat will stay on scene until the other Coast Guard boat arrives.
