NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is medevacing a man from a cruise ship near the entrance of Southwest Pass, 22 miles southwest of Venice, Friday, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Medevaced was Saint Dolce, 52.

Watchstanders of Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 11:58 a.m., from a crewmember of the Carnival cruise ship, Triumph, that a man was reportedly suffering abdominal pains.

Coast Guard Station Venice launched a 41-foot utility boat and crew to rendezvous with the cruise ship. The crew successfully transferred Dolce off the Triumph and is currently en route to Station Venice where EMS is standing by.

"In situations like this where logistics and timing play a large role in the operation, it pays to have a working relationship with the crew of the ship your assisting," said Lt. j.g. Chris Rogers, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans. "In this case it was a cruise ship, but we work hard to ensure we have that same relationship with mariners from every industry."

Dolce's condition is unknown.
