SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued three recreational boaters from Little Sand Island, Ore., Saturday, after their 16-foot pleasure craft capsized at approximately 11 a.m., Friday.

The members were stranded on the island, which is located on the Columbia River near Cape Disappointment, Wash., for more than 24 hours before being rescued. After many unsuccessful attempts at signaling for help, the three members sought shelter for the evening in an unoccupied bird research facility that is located on the island.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment received a report that a fishing vessel crew had sighted the stranded members. Station Cape Disappointment launched a 25-foot response boat small and recovered the members soon after.

The three members were transferred to Station Cape Disappointment. No injuries were reported.

A local salvage company removed the capsized vessel, which was pinned against rocks on the shore of the island.
