TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. – The crew of Coast Guard Station Tybee is to receive the Sumner I. Kimball Readiness Award, Friday at 9 a.m., aboard Coast Guard Station Tybee.

The Kimball Award, named after Sumner I. Kimball the General Superintendent of the Life-Saving Service from 1878-1915, was established in 2001.

The award recognizes Coast Guard boat force units that exemplify the Coast Guard’s motto of always ready.

On average, approximately 15 Coast Guard units receive the Kimball Award annually.

Presiding official will be Capt. Michael F. White, Jr., Commander Coast Guard Sector Charleston, S.C.
