I am working on a sequel to
"At Freedom's Table: Recipes and Remembrances From Military Wives." In the
sequel, I plan to feature modern military spouses who are making outstanding
contributions to the nation and or their local communities. If you know a
military spouse who has developed a program, provided a creative solution,
volunteered substantial time and energy -- in short, "made a difference,"
nominate him or her for inclusion in this book, which honors the contributions
of modern military wives.
I'd like to hear from officers, enlisted, former and current military members,
spouses, children, etc. Please e-mail Carolyn Quick Tillery at
jackietillery@aol.com My three
prior publications may be viewed at amazon.com
Thanks,
Carolyn

A FEW GOOD WOMEN:
Servicewomen and Military Wives Speak on Life in the Armed Forces
I am working on a non-fiction project called A Few Good Women, one where
military women, current and former, as well as family members, share their
experiences as active duty servicewomen and wives of active duty servicemen.
(All races and branches of service will be represented and included.)
This anthology will be written in your own words and will give you an
opportunity to express how you feel about the bond between women in a military
environment, how active duty and family member wives support each other during
times of peace and war, your thoughts and feelings about deploying and leaving
your families, about your spouses deploying and your remaining behind. I'd
like to hear the experiences of military wives on how they hold it down when
their spouses have deployed or are away on duty, how you feel about the pay
scale and whether or not the benefits in the military are worth the
sacrifices. I'd like to hear from officers, enlisted, former and current
military members, spouses, children, etc. Tell me how you explain this whole
military environment to your children, and whether or not they are
well-adjusted to moving frequently and unexpected lifestyle changes. For those
of you, both active and spouses who have had children while in the military,
tell me of your birthing experiences and whether or not it was easy having a
baby in a military hospital or abroad in a foreign country.
In short, I want to hear from you on what your experiences have been and how
you have been affected. I want to hear about your triumphs over adversity, how
racism and sexism has affected you in this environment, how living far away
from family and friends has helped you become stronger or has broken you down,
what the overall impact of being a woman in a military environment has meant
to you. I want to feel your pain and feel your joy, and pay homage to your
sacrifices while giving you a chance to be heard.
You may write your own story, or you can tell it to me and I will write it for
you.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO MAY HAVE BEEN IN THE MILITARY,
RETIRED, ETS'D, ACTIVE DUTY, OR MILITARY SPOUSE.
Stories should be submitted in the body of an email, not as an attachment, to
TnTexplosions@aol.com with a
hard copy mailed to: TnT Explosions: A Few Good Women PO Box 187 Fort Dix, New
Jersey 08640. Please email me immediately with a note stating your intention
to submit your story. Deadline for actual stories will be May 1, 2003.
tracythomp@aol.com
Word count should be between 1000-1500 words, but your story will be edited so
don't worry about the exact count or grammatical errors or the telling of it.
I will help smooth it out, if necessary. If you have any questions please
email me at TnTexplosions@aol.com
or tracythomp@aol.com

Fort McClellan, 1971
I served in the Women's Army but
was never assigned to Ft. McClellan. However, I am writing a book which
includes a chapter on my visit to Ft. McClellan to investigate alcoholism in
the Army in 1971. At the time I was with the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on
Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. I interviewed a group of young recruits there and
also several WAC officers. If any of you remember that visit I would like to
hear form you.
What I urgently need, however, is the name of the delightful Colonel who was
in command at that time.
